Had a great time at this with Melanie. Lots of good design to look at including type drawings by Eric Gill.

Reading pile

So, I have a bit of reading to catch up on! Each of these books has been started but then another interesting one comes my way. I am going to try and read these all first and then treat myself to a new book afterwards. Everyone in this house is addicted to books – could be worse I guess! I am also trying to finish crocheting a blanket for E to take to Edinburgh with her. Again, I will use up all the wool I already have!

Finally I have finished my book for the wlyb minute exhibition! It has taken a while to emerge… I never, ever mount anything on black so this is a bit weird for me – but it was relevant to the communication of the piece so I went with the flow!

Each digitally printed book (based on some experimental calligraphy) has hidden bits of Letraset type added to it. From certain angles bits of this type can be seen. The whole point is that it is secretive – so really no one else is meant to be able to read it all. Three of the four books also hold the structure together – making it harder to access the hidden messages. The fourth book tumbles out from the structure as it has been set free into the world for all to see.

Edinburgh university

What an impressive Uni. It is like Oxford/Cambridge! The person we went to
visit had an office beyond a room labelled “tea point”. This made me laugh – a room dedicated to tea and time to take a tea break!

It is a well known “true” fact in this house that you can never have enough string! Unfortunately this tin that E bought me has just about run out! Hint hint…

Well the garlic is growing most excellently! Despite being allergic to it I grow it to sell it! Maybe one day I will become a garlic farmer and make my fortune as at least I would never eat the crop!

Minute mock up

I am still trying out different structures to hold my small books in. Something that contains, hides and reveals.

embedding tests – book bursting open

Work in progress for minute exhibition. Testing book structures with dummy books. Finally I have had some time (and found some inclination) to experiment with different structures to hold my little books. Still unresolved but at least I now have some ideas! Hurray…
